MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Firefighters of the Mossel Bay Fire and Disaster Management Services were given a short reprieve by the rain that finally quenched the vegetation fire in the Ruiterbos area.
Mossel Bay's crew and related emergency services had been battling the fire in the mountainous area around Ruiterbos in the Robinson Pass with back burns since about 02:00 on Monday morning.
No homes were in immediate danger, but a close eye was kept on the Ruiterbos community and farms in the area of Eight Bells.
In the rest of the Eden District the firefighters of both government and non-government agencies have battled fires since the beginning of the month.
It has been confirmed these fires were doused by the rains.
