Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Feedback late last night from the Forward Control Point (FCP) at Ruitersbos where firefighters are fighting the Haelkraal fire that now has been raging since Tuesday, is that 3 back-burns have been made overnight night to eliminate 80% of the fire lines.
A Recce flight will be done this morning at about 09:30 to assess the current status of fires in this area.
Firefighters had to deal with a further number of fires in and closer to Mossel Bay overnight.
A team had to respond to a fire at Fransmanskraal, although this seems to have been a false but well intended call.
In KwaNonqaba crews had to respond to a fire in Dywili street, and later during the night had to battle a structure on fire in Scholtz Street, Zone 7.
Furthermore firefighters were also called upon to investigate a foul smell in Dana Bay where residents complained about something smelling like gas.
There are currently 4 fires in the district, three of which are managed by Eden District Municipality and one by George Municipality.
These authorities are in turn assisted by the Mossel Bay Fire and Disaster Management teams, other firefighters, land owners and several volunteers.
