MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The blackish residue in the Blind River in Mossel Bay is caused by algae growth.
This has been confirmed by die Garden Route District Municipality.
The municipality says in a statement, algae often decomposes alongside river banks and looks similar to oil residue. Samples last year that were laboratory tested, were confirmed to be algae.
CapeNature was also contacted and confirmed the natural cause of algae and organic material decomposition that looked like blackish oil residue. This is eminent in water sources alongside the Garden Route lake areas.
