MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On Saturday, 27 May, members of the Southern Cape Bee Industry Association (SCBIA) experienced a remarkable and fruitful day when a conference was held in Little Brak, in which experts shared their knowledge and insights.
Feedback from the event was that it was a resounding success and that the attendees had the privilege of hearing from Daniel Bridger, John Stoltz, and John Hayes, each specialising in different aspects of beekeeping.

Bridger, a distinguished authority on hive management, took the stage to deliver an enlightening speech. His expertise in this area proved invaluable as he shared practical tips and techniques for maintaining healthy hives.
Bridger's talk covered various topics, including hive organisation, pest control and optimal honey production. The audience was captivated by his comprehensive understanding of beekeeping and left with a wealth of new knowledge.
Stoltz, another notable figure in the beekeeping community, focused on the delicate task of bee removals. Drawing from his extensive experience, Stoltz shared his tried-and-tested methods for safely relocating bee colonies.
His talk shed light on the challenges faced during such operations and provided invaluable insights into minimising disruptions to both bees and beekeepers. Stoltz's expertise was evident as he emphasised the importance of humane practices and shared real-life anecdotes to illustrate his points.
Hayes, a pioneer in bee removals, using vacuum machines, introduced the audience to this innovative method of removing bees from unwanted locations.
Through a detailed presentation, he explained the benefits and techniques associated with using vacuum machines, highlighting their effectiveness and efficiency. Attendees were fascinated by the possibilities offered by this advanced approach, which showed the continuous evolution of beekeeping practices.
In addition to the informative sessions, Bridger and Stoltz conducted live demonstrations on fixing cross comb within beehives.
