MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Investigating officers have welcomed a sentence of 17 years' imprisonment handed down to a 35-year-old man from Mossel Bay, who was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl in 2019.
The accused, Sivuyile Noqala, was sentenced in the Mossel Bay Regional Court last week.
On the day of the incident on 26 March 2019, Noqala asked the victim, whom he knew as he was friends with her mother, to walk with him to Checkers.
It was testified in court that the victim knew him as he regularly visited their home.
On their way to the shop, Noqala told her he wanted to go by his house in Mossel Bay to take care of laundry.
When they reached his home, he asked her to assist him inside the house and locked the door after she walked in.
He then raped her.
The case was successfully investigated by Sergeant Mantshadi Mofokeng from the Mossel Bay Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Corne Pretorius represented the state as prosecutor.
