LATEST UPDATE AT 16:13 - The small group of protesters that blocked the access road to Marikana in Endlovini have dispersed. The roadway is still littered with rocks and debris from a burnt tyre but traffic is free flowing and it seems as if calm has been restored.

MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Residents of Marikana in Endlovini remain alert and the access road to the area, Thembalihle Street off Mayixhale Road, remains closed as talks between the community leaders and Mossel Bay Municipality is ongoing. 

A heavy presence of law enforcement officials are monitoring the situation.

According to community leaders, they are peacefully protesting their eviction from a piece of land that the municipality has earmarked for the installation of bulk services. 

Protesters say they are all backyard dwellers looking for better housing.

Mayixhale Road remains open to traffic between Louis Fourie Road and Voorbaai.
