MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has packaged an exciting programme for the Garden Route Port Festival, taking place this weekend, 2 and 3 November.
The festivities are free and open to all. Activities start tomorrow, Saturday 2 November at 11:00, with a cadets' display.
Take in the ruby final
There is no need to miss the big rugby match on Saturday, as there will be live screenings of the game at the festival beer garden and main stage. Patrons can also enjoy a special combo deal made available by Spur, including a burger, chips and Glenhoff craft beer for R80.
Colour Splash 5km Fun Run, Walk
On Saturday the 5km Garden Route Colour Splash takes place at 09:00, starting at the Station Street harbour entrance and finishing at Kaai 4 Restaurant, with a prize giving after the event.
Highlights will include performances by national hit-makers Kwesta and Vusi Nova, as well as a host of local artists including Mossel Bay Harmonic voices, Die Wasgoedlyn, Soulistic Harmonies, G Minor, Anushka & Keenan, Gody, Fanatics SA, Beat Kings, Space music, Hakkies Draad and DJ Cat. A marimba band and various dance performances also promise to thrill.
Port-goers can compete for glory in a range of competitions, such as a talent show and fishing competition. Other competititive opportunities in the line-up include a potjie/fish braai competition, Amazing Race challenge and a colour fun run.
The TNPA programme includes tugboat rides and sea rescue demonstrations, as well as a business and careers exhibition, where attendees can learn about the maritime industry, while corporates get to showcase their company.
Kids will be kept entertained by rides including the carousel with ponies, bumper cars and bull rides. Activities include balloon art, face painting, donkey rides, jumping castles, climbing wall, 10-metre slides and photo booths.
There will be an arts and crafts market showcasing the talents of local crafters and entrepreneurs, as well as a Smart Youth market where learners will compete against each other, as they put their entrepreneurial and creative skills to the test. Fitness enthusiasts can look forward to exhibitions and live boxing and kick boxing matches.
Attendees will be spoilt for choice with various stalls as well as port tenants selling their products. There will also be a beer tent and tea garden.
