The opposition parties were highly critical of the ruling Democratic Alliance (DA), represented by the mayoral candidate, Councillor Harry Levendal. Levendal is the current executive deputy mayor.
Most of the questions centered on service delivery issues with electricity, water supply, refuse removal and the provision of housing raised as matters of serious concern. Allegations of disparity in the provision of services were loudly supported by the lively audience.
The sudden resignation of municipal manager Dr Michele Gratz was also discussed and opposition parties voicing their unhappiness with the manner in which it was dealt with.
