MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Local police remind the public that, although the country has shifted from lockdown level 5 to level 4 in terms of the Disaster Management Act, important restrictions still apply.
“People are taking a drive around the Point in Mossel Bay, as if everything has returned to normal. This is not the case.
“In terms of the Act you are still only allowed to travel to obtain medical care or permitted services and goods, and to perform essential or permitted services.
“You are also allowed to move children between homes, within the framework of the regulations only,” says Captain Wollie Fourie, spokesperson of the Da Gamaskop Police.
“If you are found in an area where you are to perform an essential service, you must be able to prove this is the case.”
Capt Fourie said the police were, apart from doing their rounds as in level 5, now also doing inspections at business premises which, under level 4, have reopened.
“Business owners are reminded that they will be required to provide proof during inspection that they and/or their employees are allowed work.
“Spaza shops too, must adhere to the curfew and operate only between 05:00 and 20:00 to serve the community in the provision of essential and permitted goods.”
Capt Fourie added that micro lending companies were not allowed to trade. He reminded the public that hefty fines would be issued to transgressors.
“The public must take note that exercise, including walking, running and cycling is permitted only between 06:00 and 09:00 and in a 5km radius from your home.”
