MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A free information session on the importance of early learning is being held at the Thusong Service Centre in KwaNonqaba, Mossel Bay, on Tuesday, 26 July.
The Thusong Centre is at 108 Adriaans Avenue. The session takes place from 10:00 until 13:00.
It is being held by a national organisation, SmartStart, which promotes early learning throughout South Africa. The emphasis is on children five years and younger.
Parents and those interested in early childhood development (ECD) in the greater community are invited to attend.
SmartStart offers free training to those who wish to be ECD practitioners. There are certain criteria to be met to qualify for this training. SmartStart also offers ongoing support through its early learning development programme.
Anne-Marie Saffi is the co-ordinator of the SmartStart early learning programme in the Mossel Bay area.
SmartStart educates parents on the importance of learning in children five years and younger. Many children in South Africa are not in preschools and they miss out on crucial learning which assists in developing their brains, Saffi says.
She notes "We have been working in the Mossel Bay area since 2017. Over the past year we have been running a behaviour change campaign to build awareness and educate parents across South Africa on the benefits of early learning in ensuring future success in life .We ran this campaign across multiple media platforms."
