MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Based on the need identified for more facilities within the community for sports and recreation, KwaNonqaba, Mossel Bay, now boasts a newly revamped centre that was officially opened on Friday, 10 March.
Several years ago the Barcelona Hall in KwaNonqaba was identified as an ideal venue for setting up an indoor sports and recreation facility. It was, however, necessary to postpone its development due to other projects, such as housing, that needed preference.
It has since been revamped and is now open for business.
"This indoor hall has been renewed, restored and is once again a centre of opportunity. It provides the opportunity for community members to connect and for athletes, coaches and administrators to hone their skills and potential.
"It provides the space for school and church groups to share knowledge, digest and understand the word of God, and for those who lead to impart knowledge to those they serve.
"It is a space for new skills to be mastered, for new memories to be created and shared," said town councillor, Alderman Niklaas Booisen, portfolio chairman of Community Services, responsible for halls and sports facilities, among others.
Director of Community Services Elize Nel said her team was thrilled to offer another facility to the community.
She said the youth office of the Mossel Bay Municipality, especially, would be able to make great use of the new facility in rolling out its projects. Ward councillor Sibabalo Dubula, also present, welcomed the facility.
Niklaas Booisen, portfolio chairperson for community safety, admiring the new facility.
