MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Western Cape Community Safety Act 3 of 2013 was published on 3 April 2013 and makes specific reference to "neighbourhood watch" and the accreditation in terms of the Act.
The Lower Town Neighbourhood Watch in Mossel Bay was accredited in March 2017 in terms of the Act but this process is valid for a two-year period only.
In terms of the Act all members of the Lower Town Neighbourhood Watch must:
- Obtain clearance from SAPS.
- Sign the NHW Code of Conduct.
Arrangements will be made to facilitate this process by arranging venues where members are able to complete the above.
Based on this:
Endorsement by SAPS and CPF will be sought, which is a requirement for accreditation by the authorities.
This is a legal requirement of the Western Cape government and only NHW members that comply with this request will continue to function as active members.
The deadline for this process is 30 September.
