MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - With April being Autism Awareness Month worldwide, locally the Education and Training Hub for Autism Needs (ETHAN) was highly active in doing their bit to create better understanding of autism spectrum disorder.
Part of their awareness campaign included a poster competition, presented in collaboration with the Mossel Bay Municipality.
The competition concludes at the Centre for Exceptional Children in Aalwyndal.
Twenty-six local schools, including pre-schools, primary and high schools participated and clearly put a lot of thought and trouble into their entries.
The judges included councillors Anton Dellemijn and Marie de Klerk, ETHAN board member Lavina Hobbs, ETHAN founder member Geoffrey Hobbs, graduated artist and art teacher Cara Steyn, attorney and secretary of the Rotary Club of Mossel Bay Magdelene Barnard and teacher and artist Gaudie van der Westhuizen, who taught at local and international institutions and managed art schools.
During the judging, the learners put on quite a spread, serving their guest quiche they prepared themselves from their own produce grown at the school.
No one who attended the judging left empty-handed, as each received a handmade gift.

"A warm congratulations to our winners and a big thank you to every school and pre-school that participated in this Autism Awareness poster competition," said Dianne Hobbs from ETHAN. "We look forward to your support and participation in our future projects as we continue to create autism awareness and acceptance in our beautiful town."
