MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It’s time again for talented performing artists in Mossel Bay and surrounds to get their act together for the 2014 Mossel Bay’s Got Talent showcase.

In 2013, this event drew audiences in excess of 3500 people in nine venues to see 250 performers strut their stuff on stage.

This year, in addition to the weekly auditions that start tomorrow, Friday, 21 March in Great Brak, Jonkersberg and Friemersheim, the judges will be offering workshops in each area. These workshops, dealing with various disciplines within the performing arts, will be presented on the Saturday after the auditions.

Registration for tomorrow's auditions start at 16:00.

“This year, we are really focusing on skills development, since we believe that this is what is required for contestant to not only do their best in the competition, but to prepare them for furthering their abilities regarding the performing arts,” says Yolande van Aswegen.

Category winners in last year’s competition and other acts among the top 20 managed to secure themselves regular bookings on the entertainment scene.

Dance category winners Gumboot Revolution perform regularly at events in and around Mossel Bay. Other category winners, like rapper Andile Citashe aka Small, who performed alongside Loyiso Bala at the gala event of last year’s Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo, says, “Not only did MBGT open doors for me, but it taught me to be versatile as an artist.”
Now hosting rap sessions at various local venues, he says that the competition taught him to be disciplined and developed his leadership abilities.

• 18 April - D'Almeida, Joe Slovo, Extension 8, Gaatjie - D'Almeida community hall, 16:00-21:00
• 25 April - KwaNonqaba - KwaNonqaba community hall, 16:00-21:00
• 2 May - Extension 23, 26, 13 - Indoor Sport Centre, 18:00-20:00
• 9 May - Extension 6, Tarka, Mossel Bay (town), Da Nova, Heiderand, Hartenbos - Town Hall, 16:00-21:00
• 16, 23, 28 May - Rehearsals for semi-finals,
• 31 May - Semi-finals - Bravo Lounge, 16:00-21:00
• 11 and 12 June - Final rehearsals
• 14 June - Gala event - Town Hall, 19:00
