Mossel Bay's Deon in Mr SA top 10

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mr South Africa top 10 finalists were announced on Friday, 28 October, and Mossel Bay's Deon Lensing is one of them.

One by one, photographs of the top 10 finalists were posted on the Mr SA Facebook site. Deon was the first finalist to be announced.

He won the October challenge for the Mr SA semi-finalists, it was announced last week. The semi-finalists had to go through a series of challenges in order to accumulate points in the contest.

Deon is a fitness instructor, an online marketing specialist and a pageant organiser. He has done charitable work in the community including supporting animal welfare causes, motivational speaking and planting trees. He is also a director of the NPO, the Anti-Bullying Academy.

Deon said this week: "It's difficult to describe how I feel. I'm excited, but at the same time really calm."

He said he had been nervous, yet confident he had put in all the work needed to make it to the top 10.

The 10 finalists will be at a red carpet event at a hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg, on 10 December, where the top three positions in the Mr SA contest will be decided. The finalists must all sell tickets for this event.

Deon said the next challenge for the finalists is to create a video advertisement and they must also provide information on themselves so the public can get to know them better.

'Think on their feet'
He said the contestants in Mr SA have had to "think on their feet".

He also said they were judged on what they had already done in the community - such as charity work - prior to entering the competition.

The organisers wanted to "see what we are able to deliver", he noted.

"I developed skills, such as creating and editing videos and getting people together to help. I have discovered new talents and things about myself during the competition. It has given me things to think about. It has been quite a journey and outside of my comfort zone.

"You get to know yourself better during a competition like this." Deon said it had given him food for thought. "It tests all your limits."
