MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Three mortars were found by municipal workers in the Bayview area this morning, 30 April at approximately 08:15.
The explosive devices were found in refuse bags.
The SAPS explosives unit, assisted by Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue, safely disposed of the devices.
The beach and surrounding area has been declared safe.
"Mossel Bay Municipality strongly condemns the careless and negligent conduct of a local resident who threw away live explosives with household waste," said the head of Mossel Bay Disaster Management, Joseph Joey Johnston.
According to Captain Wollie Fourie of the Da Gamaskop Police, the incident is being investigated.
