MOSSEL BAY NEWS - "The Mossel Bay community, and especially the Mossel Bay Community Corrections team of the Department of Correctional Services, will set the trend with the 366 Days of Activism against violence against women and children," the Mossel Bay Municipality director of community services, Elize Nel said at the launch of the Men for Change project.
Representatives of Correctional Services, the Community Corrections team and the Department of Justice met with the Mossel Bay Municipality on Wednesday, 15 January for the social reintegration and mainstreaming launch.
Men for Change is a project that embodies the vision to make a difference in the community through the reintegration of probationers and parolees.
The project will not only be celebrated on annual International Men's Day on 19 November but will form part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
The exception, however, is that this will be driven as a No Silence campaign for all of the 366 days of 2020 – a leap year.
The programme is intended to emphasise the role and function of case officers and the positive guidance and leadership they provide to parolees and probationers.
The Mossel Bay Community Corrections Team, consisting of the Mossel Bay Municipality, Mossel Bay Correctional Services, Hope Prison Ministry and several other role players, have set the trend by starting a collaborative programme that will be an asset to the community and to the Mossel Bay Local Aids Council and the Gender Forum. "At Mossel Bay Municipality several programmes focus on community development and upliftment. Working closely with the Department of Correctional Services provides the opportunity to empower others through the collaboration," Nel added.
"Today's inmates should develop into tomorrow's leaders. Through the initiative now launched the community benefits."
