MOSSEL BAY NEWS - South Africa is in the grip of domestic violence and the fact that men are often victims of this crime as well, is often overlooked.
On 25 June, Westridge Eyes in the Hood is hosting an event for men, to remind the community, that men too suffer abuse.
"Our theme for the event is Men also Matter, because they too are abused but our focus is predominantly on the woes of women and children," explains Natasha Plato.
Plato lives in Extension 13, Mossel Bay, and is involved with community safety in her neighbourhood. There has been an active campaign run by the Westridge Eyes in the Hood, a registered non-profit organisation, to raise money for crime prevention initiatives, which include the construction of overhead cameras in crime hotspots.
The Guy's Tea, hosted by Westridge Eyes in the Hood takes place on 25 June at the Mossel Bay Town Hall. Entry is R150 per person and the event starts at 15:00. The dress code is formal.
The guest speaker at the event will be Western Cape Minister of Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagan Allen.
