MOSSEL BAY NEWS - In a press release, the Western Cape MEC of Finance and Economic Opportunities David Maynier welcomed the news that a second discovery of gas has been made at the Luiperd well.
The well is about 175 kilometres off the coast of Mossel Bay and adjacent to the Brulpadda well, where gas was discovered in 2019.
On Wednesday, 28 October, it was announced by the president of Exploration and Production at Total, Arnaud Breuillic, that the second discovery of gas had been made at the Luiperd well
Maynier noted in the press release: "Two months ago, I observed the crew change of the Deepsea Stavanger, the rig responsible for the drilling campaign, which is expected to last 180 to 300 days, and which could see up to R1.5 billion invested in the economy, including a number of initiatives to create opportunities for employment and skills development in the local economy in South Africa."
He added: "The announcement provides a confidence boost in the development of the South African oil and gas industry, and is good news for the economy in the Garden Route and the Western Cape."
