MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Western Cape MEC of Finance, Minister Ivan Meyer, visited the Walvis Street housing development in JCC, in Mossel Bay.
Eventually 256 houses will be developed on the property that until recently housed several informal dwellings.
"Informal housing should not become the norm, it should be stopped," Dr Meyer said.
He urged local leaders to ensure that the name for the new development reflects the culture and custom of the community with pride. "Involve all of the community members in the naming of their suburb."
Minister Meyer also urged the municipality to ensure that the areas vacated by informal dwellers when moving to new housing developments were not populated by new entrants.
