MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On 27 September, the D'Almeida Library, in partnership with the Mossel Bay Chess Club, hosted another successful library chess tournament with 39 participants.
The library received entries from York High School, Sao Bras Secondary School, Hillcrest Secondary School, Erika Primary, Ridgeview Primary, Isalathiso Primary, Diaz Primary, Milkwood Primary and Garden Route Primary School.
The senior and junior winners were chosen and a special award for exceptional girl players from each division was on offer.
The library uses this event to market and promote its membership drive initiative and its services.
Senior winners: 1. Jerome Daniels; 2. Clayton Taute; 3. Anwill Groenewald.
Junior winners: 1. Reuben Daniels; 2. Aiden Jacobs; 3. Antonio Michaels.
Two girls, Sharna Prins (senior) and Gabriella Jansen (junior), were rewarded for their exceptional performance.
The library staff extend a special thank you to Ralph Cloete (Mossel Bay Chess Club chair), Thomas Jaars, Bjorn October (chess tournament arbiters) and Lizette de Kock (project co-ordinator).
