MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following a month of collecting donations, the Junior Town Council (JTC) of Mossel Bay this week handed over much-needed foodstuff to Leolan Academy.
Leolan caters for those with learning disabilities, including autism spectrum and celebrates its 10th birthday on 3 June.
The drive for donations coincided with Autism Awareness Month in April.
The JTC in 2021 embarked on a similar donation drive, but also sold blue ribbons to promote autism awareness and in doing so, raised money for Leolan.
During the handover, Lisa Strauss, the acting principal of the academy, expressed her gratitude to the JTC. She also thanked the community for its support of the JTC's initiative.
JTC executive members Shanique Gordon and Ethan-John Carstens (junior mayor) were at the handover, with Yolande van Aswegen from the Mossel Bay Municipality's Youth Office.
JTC members from the respective high schools in the greater Mossel Bay area collected the donations.
Carstens expressed the hope that this would become an annual project for the JTC in aid of Leolan.
