MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay model and actor Dirk van Noordwyk will be attending a huge convention in New York.
It is the IMTA 2022, from 17 to 21 July, organised by the International Modelling and Talent Association.
The convention is for models, performers, agents, vendors, those who train models and performers and for sponsors.
Dirk (21) was born and raised in Mossel Bay and attended Point High School. He is signed with the 33 and Me Talent Agency in Cape Town.
He says: "My journey started in May last year. I auditioned for the International Arts Talent Showcase which took place at the Silver Star Casino in Krugersdorp in September.
Monologue
"I modelled at the showcase and I acted. My act was a one-minute monologue in which I tried to convince a friend not to be so stressed about his performance, but to think about the pretty dancer on stage. It was a comedy.
"After performing at the showcase, I received a call back. I was selected to go to IMTA in New York."
Dirk says he and other South Africans invited to go to New York organised a group flight package so that their flights are affordable.
"I'm not in a full-time job at the moment," Dirk says. I want to pursue my dream to be a fulltime model and actor. I will see what happens in the States and decide what to do from then."
'Surfer vibe'
Dirk worked at a surf clothing shop after finishing school. "I was a sales assistant. I love the surfer vibe."
His love of performing was evident in his early years. "As a young boy, playing in the garden at home, I would imagine myself as one of my favourite movie characters. I would create a scene with the character. God gave me this gift to share with the world.
"At a later stage people starting approaching me and asked if I modelled, so I decided to try it."
Dirk has entered the Mr South Africa competition. To register he had to send in a "head shot" of himself and he has qualified for the first round of the competition. "There will be an introduction photo shoot soon," Dirk says.
