MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The third annual Mayor's Golf Day netted R160 000 in support of the Mayoral Relief and Charitable Fund. The event was hosted at the Mossel Bay Golf Course on Friday, 7 June.
In total, 19 teams participated in the four-ball Full American Scramble.
Proceeds from entries and generous sponsorships will be used for benevolent contributions to worthy causes and persons within the greater Mossel Bay.
The teams, some from as far as Ladismith, faced blistering wind that made play somewhat difficult, especially in the early morning. Sponsored refreshments at a number of the holes encouraged the players to give their best despite the weather.

The day concluded with a gala dinner where sporting paraphernalia were auctioned off, constituting about R10 000 in addition to the total sum contributed to the Mayoral Fund.
Speaking at the gala dinner, Alderman Levendal thanked participants and sponsors for their generosity and participation.
"I have seen many of you here last year and the year before.
You may never know the difference your contributions make in the lives of the less fortunate of our town.
The Mayoral Relief and Charitable fund is entirely dependent on donations and external fundraising," he said.
He pointed out that, while the town of Mossel Bay can be seen as a prosperous community, it has its share of social ills, and the municipality has embarked on a project to address these. "We intend to enhance social cohesion and effect moral regeneration. We have embarked on a journey to change the behaviour of our people and to give hope to those who are hopeless.
I've asked myself the question: if we don't do something to improve people's lives, who will?"
The winning team, consisting of Jannie Fourie, Boet Erasmus, Hennie Pienaar and Louis Kruger, led the field with a score of 58. The next three teams all posted a total of 60. Second were Clive Kaptein, Michael Kriel, Kass Muller and Dudley du Plessis, followed by Allen Yaxley, Philip de Bruin, Francois du Plessis and Jacques Koen.
Then followed Gerdswin Breda, Comil Hendricks, Deon van der Berg and Chanton Breda. In fifth place were Michal Rehr, Graeme Viljoen, Chris Brits and Geber Middel.
