MOSSEL BAY NEWS FLASH - A Public Housing Project (PHP) in KwaNonqaba is a Western Cape finalist in the prestigious Govan Mbeki-award.
Should this project be chosen as the Western Cape winner, the project will automatically compete nationally against the winners of other provinces for the award. On Friday, 10 April representatives of the Department of Housing in the Western Cape visited the project to assess it ahead of the provincial awards.
The Y'akindlu and Utshani community struggled for several years to get the project off the ground. They approached the Mossel Bay Municipality and, with the assistance of the Eden Profession Resource Team, Royal Haskoning DHV, the first two houses in the project were handed to their beneficiaries in August 2014.
Since then 120 houses of superior quality were handed to the community. On Friday, 10 April, Young Mr Gamaliyeli Ntshiela was the latest beneficiary to receive his house.
