MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Fruitful talks were held this week among representatives of the Department of Corrections and staff of the Mossel Bay Municipality, regarding "working with disability" and joining hands to develop and uplift communities.
The meeting took place in Herbertsdale, where representatives of Community Corrections and the municipality have started several community projects recently.
During this week's get together, masks were given to disabled persons and they were also given reading material and yarn for sewing projects.
The discussions included talks on computer literacy for the disabled, as well as probationers. Three houses have been identified where probationers can help build accessibility ramps for the disabled.
Other undertakings included hosting school talks, the implementation of food gardens, peer education and restoration programmes, which will seek to involve the disabled and probationers.
Based on the successful rollout in Herbertsdale, these initiatives will be escalated to other areas in the greater Mossel Bay area.
Some of the masks, made at the Mossel Bay Youth Centre, which were given to disabled persons.
