MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A hairdressing competition is being held in Mossel Bay to raise money for the Up with Downs (Down's Syndrome) facility in George.
The facility is well known and there are Mossel Bay residents who are assisted at the facility.
The hairdressing competition is open to all qualified hairdressers.
On Saturday, 22 October, the Mossel Bay Hairdresser of the Year will be crowned during a formal gala event to be held at Laminin Agora - a venue near Hartenbos.
A spokesperson for the competition said: "This will not be just another fashion parade, but a fun-filled evening, as hairdressers each have to enter a model with a hairstyle and full outfit according to the theme, Recycling Fantasy. It will give the Mossel Bay area hairdressers the opportunity to show off their skill, talent and artistry."
A panel of judges will judge the models in accordance with the theme. There will be prizes for first, second and third hairdressers, as well as the audience's choice via votes from the audience.
This will be a formal event with a three-course meal and a cash bar will be available.
Lucky draws and auction
There will be a number of lucky draws and an auction of artworks by noted artists.
Tickets for the prestigious gala event can be purchased from the organisers at R500 per person. Their contact details are: Helena - 082 903 6044; Corlene - 082 459 2328; and Het - 060 975 5148.
Hairdressers are asked to enter soon, as entries are restricted to 20. Contact the organisers for the entry/registration forms.
"We, the organisers, are looking forward to a successful gala evening and are planning on making the Mossel Bay Hairdresser of the Year an annual event."
All proceeds will be donated to Up with Downs in George.
The centre consists of a school that covers basic academic work with the learners, a training centre where the adults learn valuable life skills, a hostel and an adult home. There are a total of 39 learners and 20 staff running this four-in-one facility. Up with Downs receives no government subsidy and school fees are insufficient to cover all the operating costs.
Any donations are welcome and greatly appreciated by the centre.
