Update
HESSEQUA NEWS - The Bitouville, Gouritsmond wildfire is as of 13: 30, already 70% of the flanks are contained at this stage.
- Division A: North is contained. Teams are patrolling per foot and mopping up.
- Division B: West is contained. Teams patrolling and mopping up.
- Division C: South, south-west. Along the coast, significant flare-ups occurred. Ground Crews are currently pulling out all stops to prevent runaway fire with the support of an aerial resource.
- Division D: East flank is contained - patrolled and monitored.
Aerial reconnaissance was performed earlier this morning and three different flareups were identified as a threat for runaway fires.
The aerial resources were then utilised to assist ground crews in gaining control and extinguishing these flare-ups.
The wind speeds are predicted to reach 42km per hour and authorities remain on high alert.
Mopping-up and patrol of all divisions continue. The objective remains to protect life and properties while attempting to extinguish wildfires.
No structures have been lost or damaged.
Roleplayers include GRDM, Hessequa Municipality Fire Services, Working on Fire, Albertinia Farmwatch and the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association.
