GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Latest update on the fires in the Garden Route district.
GEORGE
Blanco (Stepaside) – flareups. Aerial resources dispatched two bombers and helicopter (Huey).
Jonkersberg – Fire high up in the mountains. Area has been evacuated as a precautionary measure +- 80 persons.
KNYSNA - Diepwalle and Buffelsnek – residents have been evacuated to Kruisvallei as a precautionary measure. Bosdorp, Rheenendal and Kraaibosch have hotspots with ground crews busy with flareups.
N9 – ground teams monitoring the road
DE VLUGT AREA - Sonskynsvallei and Buffelsnek voluntary evacuation. Action plan is to conduct a backburn along the R339 subject to weather conditions. Active suppression where possible.
BITOU - Fire has gone past Buffelsnek plantation and is en-route to Heuningbos Plantation
GOUDVELD - Fire spreading in southerly direction around and between broken indigenous forest. Fire lines still active. SANParks have ground teams in place. Protea Valley Bosdorp has been evacuated.
