MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Management members of the various conservancies along the coast benefited from an annual firefighting course that was presented at Fransmanshoek.
Ranger Kei Heyns of the Fransmanshoek Conservancy arranged the one-day basic wildfire suppression training, partly for the benefit of his interns.
However, he says the conservancies of Fransmanshoek, stretching from Kanon to Spingerbaai as well as Dana Bay benefited from the training given by the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (SCFPA), Garden Route.
The SCFPA objectives are to empower local communities in assisting them to become more aware of the risks of fire, to capacitate them to act proactively to reduce the hazards and vulnerability of assets, and to allow them to act as a first response to fire emergencies. In doing so, communities become safer and are more prepared in the event of a fire emergency.
