MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Six local former SA National Defence Force paratroopers took part in the annual big jump for ex-parabats at the Bloemhof Dam in North West province on Friday, 30 November.
The local ex-parabats - Marius O'Niel, Louis du Toit, Dave Swanepoel, brothers Pieter and Nico de Bruin and Lourens Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen - are from the Mossel Bay area and each year they join fellow ex-parabats from throughout South Africa for a jump from an aircraft.
This year they landed on the dam and were collected by a boat. Swanepoel said: "The jump went extremely well. We're going to do it again next year. I have been doing it since 2009. We're hoping to have a bigger group next year.
"Quite a few guys did not organise leave on time, some didn't have leave and others had things that cropped up that prevented them from going.
"We stayed at the Bloemhof Dam after the jump and had a braai and beers together and chatted and compared notes about the jump."
