MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Melanie Serfontein is a popular Mossel Bay artist, who sells a substantial number of works.
She says: "I was blessed to do my first painting at school, competing and winning an art competition. My preferred medium is oil paint or combining acrylics and oils and sometimes adding silver and gold gilding."
PHOTO GALLERY: An artistic touch
Melanie says she often writes an inspiring note on the back of the canvas for the buyer. She does commissions and says her largest commission was eight artworks for a Mossel Bay businessman.
Melanie says that in creating her works, she combines pictures of existing artworks and photographs.
She sells her paintings at an art gallery she started with her husband, Ricus, in a historical building in Marsh Street.
"We thought we could offer local artists good exposure. My work is mostly marketed via word of mouth, in the gallery with walk-in clients and on the gallery Facebook page."
Melanie notes: "At this stage painting is a treasured hobby, because I work as a real estate agent.
"Since I picked up my brushes in 2013, when my youngest daughter asked me to do a painting to raise funds for CANSA, many years after that art competition in 1983, I must have sold roughly 120 works of art."
Her wide range of subject matter includes people, flowers, landscapes, boats and prophetic art.
Melanie says: "I love painting with a group of vibrant artists in an art class. I am so grateful for this wonderful, creative gift from God.
Melanie enjoys using both oils and acrylics.
