MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following a meeting of the Frolicking Ladies in Reebok, a request was made via WhatsApp and Facebook groups to the communities, predominantly from Little Brak River to Tergniet, for each family to knit one scarf to give some warmth to someone in need during the winter months.
The groups hoped for 200 scarves, but the request led to the knitting, crocheting and sewing of almost 1 000 scarves.
Scarves were handed out by volunteers from the community, including members of the Little Brak River Women's Agricultural Association and women from Oubaai, Mossel Bay and Dana Bay.

Not only were scarves knitted, but also beanies, fingerless gloves and bed socks. Beanies and scarves were handed out to various farm workers in the Little Brak rural area, as well as to the Powerkids Crèche in Powertown, Boskabouter Crèche in Ruiterbos, Sonskyn Crèche and Pniel Crèche.
Blankets from the 67 Blankets for Mandela Foundation, together with scarves and beanies, were handed to the clinics at Friemersheim, Wolwedans and Great Break River, Nokuthula Care Centre in KwaNonqaba, and to the communities in Toekoms and Powertown.
Furthermore, an outreach was conducted at The Haven Night Shelter in Mossel Bay, to which 45 blankets and 70 scarves were donated. Beanies, scarves, fingerless gloves and bed socks were also handed out to a community in Sinksabrug.
The organisers and Garden Route ambassadors of the 67 Blankets for Mandela Foundation, Ria Potgieter and Jennifer Church, together with the founder of Frolicking Ladies, Marilyn Collins, extend their sincere thanks to every person who contributed to this project. This project, under the 67 Blankets Secret Scarf banner, saw Mossel Bay producing the largest number of scarves in the country in only two months.
A scarf, beanie, bed socks and fingerless gloves project will soon be under way via the Eden Knitwits WhatsApp group. The aim is to produce 2 000 parcels by July 2022.
Anyone who would like to contribute may contact Ria Potgieter (064 413 1808), Jennifer Church (066 214 9586) or Marilyn Collins (084 513 4122).
