MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Advertiser was sent this photograph taken on Sunday, 23 October of a dolphin carcass in The Point area near Mossel Bay.
Val Marsh of the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T.) said on Tuesday, 25 October: "The police informed us there was a dolphin near Delfino's restaurant. Our volunteer and a policeman spent about an hour yesterday morning (Monday, 24 October) looking for it, but found nothing. Perhaps it was washed out by the tide again.
"We’ve had no further calls."
Mossel Bay Advertiser asked scientist Dr Greg Hofmeyr at Bayworld in Gqeberha what he thought the cause of death might have been. He said the dolphin would have to be examined closely.
The carcass looked decayed and the damage to the carcass might just be due to decay, he noted from the photograph sent to him.
