This came just days before dogs were to have been entirely banned from all beaches, as of 30 November.
Areas and times
From 1 December to 31 January, however, dog owners will only be allowed to walk their dogs on strictly demarcated areas from 05:00 to 08:00, and from 18:00 to 20:00 on the following beaches:
- Diaz beach between the estuary and Bayview,
- Hartenbos between the river mouth and Little Brak,
- Little Brak River, excluding the Blue Flag Beach area,
- Reebok / Tergniet,
- Dana Bay between First and Second Beach, and Souwesia,
- Santos beach, for the duration of the Diaz Festival doggy walk.
Strict conditions will be enforced, such as:
- dogs must be under the strict control of the owner/walker at all times,
- dogs must at all times be leashed,
- dog handlers may not allow their dogs to interfere with the pleasure of others using public beach areas,
- vicious dogs must be muzzled,
- dog walkers must give right of way to people unaccompanied by dogs,
- dog handlers must remove their dog's faeces from beaches, grass areas, paths, car parks and any other areas used by pedestrians,
- Faeces should be removed from all areas immediately and either be removed from site or placed in appropriate bins, bitches on heat may not be walked on public beaches, dogs may not be allowed to chase, disturb or injure wildlife, public beach area notices must be complied with, and
- dog handlers are to remain on public beach areas and approved paths or tracks at all times. No new paths may be forged and no shortcuts are to be taken.
