MOSSEL BAY NEWS - More than 20 young seals have been found washed up, dead, near Dias Beach in Mossel Bay.
Spokesperson for the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T.), Val Marsh, says there are others washing up on the coastline.
“The foul weather we have had has played a huge role in this. They are pups that have been washed off Seal Island near Mossel Bay, where they spend most of their early days. With the high seas they’ve been washed off the island and they are probably not able to cope with the heavy swells. If we had to do an autopsy on them I guess most of them would have drowned.”
Marsh says she has contacted the Mossel Bay Municipality to remove the dead seals.
