MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The South African Police Service recently released its second quarter (July to September) crime statistics from all police stations across the country.
Included in these statistics are top 30 rankings for various crimes registered at the stations.
The Garden Route featured 13 times in the top 30 rankings.
KwaNonqaba Police Station came 30th for the most counts of arson in the country and ninth in the province for this.
Although Da Gamaskop, Great Brak and Mossel Bay stations showed increases in some crimes, they did not make it to the top 30 for any of them.
The statistics represent the number of charges or counts and not the number of case dockets registered. One case docket can contain a single count of a specific offence, multiple counts of the same offence or several different types of offences.
Among the four Mossel Bay area stations, KwaNonqaba registered the most counts for: murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, common assault, common robbery, rape, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, contact sexual offences, robbery at residential premises, robbery at non-residential premises, arson, malicious damage to property, burglary at residential premises, stock theft, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and drug-related crime.
KwaNonqaba and Da Gamaskop both have the most registered counts for robbery with aggravating circumstances and kidnapping.
Mossel Bay and KwaNonqaba are also tied when it comes to carjacking - each has one count registered.
Da Gamaskop takes the top spots for burglary at non-residential premises, theft of motor vehicles or motorcycles, theft out of or from a motor vehicle, all theft not mentioned above and commercial crime.
Mossel Bay had the most counts registered for shoplifting as well as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
