MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Community Corrections, in collaboration with the Mossel Bay Youth Centre and the Department of Education, is hosting a crime prevention talk this week, with the focus group being high risk learners from different high schools in Mossel Bay.
The talk takes place on 21 August in the Isalathiso Primary School hall in KwaNonqaba. Time: 12:30 for 13:00.
The event has been planned because of the increase in criminal and delinquent behaviour in learners at local schools.
A spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services said: "Also, during the school holidays, it seems as if learners became involved in gang-related violence.
"The Department of Correctional Services as an integral part of the justice cluster and believe that is has to make a concerted effort to initiate activities that are aimed at preventing crime.
"From a DCS perspective, effective social crime prevention must entail a close partnership between government departments and between government and civil society in delivery on social justice and social cohesion."
During the event, youth offenders and parolees will also engage with learners to create awareness of the ripple effect of crime and to persuade them to stop criminal involvement.
