MOSSEL BAY NEWS - After the Mossel Bay Advertiser published an article on the need for a children's home in Mossel Bay, the person mentioned in the article who offered to assist and facilitate the process, received 40 calls from people interested in becoming involved.
Local artist and business woman Riëtte Delport, who grew up in a children's home herself, is delighted with the response she has received.
She said: "Everyone can contribute something. Someone called me who was the head of a number of children's homes before. I received a call from a social worker, keen to assist."
She has also been contacted by an NPO, which offered to help with food.
"We are busy creating an NPO for the children's home, considering who will be on the board and looking at specific models of children's homes. Delport said a church had offered land for the building of the home.
"We are extremely excited and are getting the ball rolling. We have contacts who will help with funds. We have the right people on board."
Delport said she wanted to get the community involved in the project by holding a competition to arrive at a name and logo for the home.
There would not be a prize for the winner - only the honour of having chosen the name and winning logo.
She encouraged schools and learners, as well as students, to get involved in choosing a name and designing a logo.
Kiddies' art would be welcome for the logo, she said.
Anyone wishing to enter should send their logo and suggested name for the children's home to Delport (rutdelport@gmail.com).
