MOSSEL BAY NEWSFLASH - Chess is alive and well in Mossel Bay, judging by the number of learners who attended the annual Tsogo Sun Moves for Life (TSMFL) tournament at the beginning of the month.
The tournament was hosted at Imekhaya Primary and facilitated by the TSMFL Team Caroline Smalberger, George Lawerlot and Fazal Primo.
Participating, was a group of 74 players representing the Imekhaya, Isalathiso, Garden Route, Ridgeview and Groot Brak Primary Schools.
The group’s chess skills ranged from beginners to advanced players who are competing at the South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCC) in January 2018.
One of the aims of the learner tournament is for the players to put their chess skills into practice against other players, conduct themselves in a formal tournament setup, and have loads of fun at the same time.
At the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life chess tournament, chess players of various skill levels had the chance to make their move.
