MOSSEL BAY NEWS - What do you do if you're involved in a horrific motorcycle accident and lose a leg?
Well, in Jacques Mostert's case, a month and a half later, he bought another motorbike - this time a Harley Davidson.
Quite clearly, skrik hy vir niks. (He's not frightened of anything.) He was riding a KTM when he had the accident.
Jacques, a well-known Mossel Bay businessman, collided with a truck in the Outeniqua Pass on 2 December. His son, riding a short distance behind him, assisted him after the accident.
Jacques was rushed to hospital in George after having lost a great deal of blood. His right leg was amputated just below the hip. News of the crash spread like wildfire on facebook and WhatsApp groups.
The community was shocked and many prayed for Jacques. There was an outpouring of concern and sympathy.
In response to: "Wow, it's a miracle you survived," he says: "Absolutely! It was a head-on collision and I flatlined twice in one day."
On Friday, 17 January, the Mossel Bay Advertiser went to see him. Lo and behold, there was Jacques, with the cheekiest grin from ear to ear and eyes sparkling - and next to him a gleaming, brand-new Harley. Boys and their toys! He also received his wheelchair the same day. So, it was two vehicles at once.
"I have a lot of pain today," Jacques said. He indicated that he felt groggy.
"People must keep praying for Jacques; the prayers help," one of Jacques' supporters told the Mossel Bay Advertiser, in a caring, serious tone.
