MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The final day of the Dias & Port Festival was a blast with the brass bands and choirs taking the stage at Santos on Sunday, 4 February.
And what a memorable occasion it was, with Star of Bethlehem brass band from Great Brak turning 66 years old on the day.
This longevity of a band is certainly a jewel in the crown of the Mossel Bay area's musical heritage.
Children younger than 10 years, up to greying grannies and grandpas, were part of the eight bands that performed on Sunday.
The bands included Mossel Bay's Guiding Stars, Holy Nativity, All Saints, Aldachique Music Academy and Path Finders. Besides Star of Bethlehem, the Great Brak performers were AGS Greenhaven, VGK Boys and UCCSA Boys' Brigade.
The choirs that sang were from Hillcrest and Indwe secondary schools.
A substantial crowd gathered under the trees at Santos to enjoy the good sounds.
