GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The non-profit organisation, Binah will celebrate National Autism Awareness Month by hosting its second annual Big Walk in the Garden Route Botanical Gardens.
National Autism Awareness Month represents an excellent opportunity to promote autism awareness, autism acceptance and to draw attention to the tens of thousands facing an autism diagnosis each year.
Binah will be hosting the Big Walk on Sunday, 15 April at 16:00 at the Garden Route Botanical Gardens for the whole family to raise awareness for families who live with autism.
Binah creates awareness for children with special needs in order for society to better understand and accept them. The challenges families with special needs children face is something the founder members of Binah themselves lived through as they raised their autistic sons.
Mariza van Deventer, director of Binah, says the fact that so many people attended their first Big Walk was a clear message of acceptance. "We experienced a true sense of community when participants shared their stories with one another at the event."
The Garden Route community supported this initiative with great enthusiasm last year.
This year the business sector is throwing its weight behind this awareness campaign. Citadel Wealth Management and Outeniqua Plastics contributed greatly towards the fun event.
With the help of Geronimo Spur a lot of participants will win Spur vouchers and thanks to Oasis Water there will be no dry throats. Due to the kind support of Interface by Goji PR & Events and media partner, the George Herald, the message of autism awareness will be spread extensively.
The Big Walk for autism awareness will start at 16:00 on Sunday, 15 April - at the Garden Route Botanical Gardens.
The theme of the walk is Proudly out of the box to support the theme as announced by Autism South Arica. The entrance fee is R50 per person and R20 for children under 12. Everyone who finishes will receive a medal.
