MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Creative Cultures Association (MOCCA) last week hosted a brainstorming session in Great Brak River with various stakeholders in the local arts fraternity in order to navigate the way forward.
MOCCA has been operating as a cultural forum, offering a networking and performing platform for artists within the greater Mossel Bay area.
Over the years, MOCCA proved to be a preferred supplier of the Mossel Bay Municipality for town festivals such as the flagship Dias Festival.
At the brainstorm on Thursday, 24 October, Michael Puffet from Ilita Lodge facilitated the discussion. Present at the session were representatives of the Mossel Bay Business Chamber, the Film Office, the FAK culture network, Friends of the Museum, ATKV Hartenbos Seefront, ATKV Great Brak, Mossel Bay Arts Society, the Wonderful South African Foundation and the Greenhaven Youth Café, the Parnassus Art Community and Maverix Music as well as individuals working in the arts environment.
Local councillor Anton Dellemijn and Deputy Mayor Dirk Kotze also gave input.
Discussed at the meeting was, among other things, the selection of a steering committee to further MOCCA's cause.
Some of MOCCA's functions re-identified during the session were to be a voice for the arts community and to represent it when dealing with local government and other stakeholders; to act as a networking agent; and to host events, not only for showcasing the work of local artists, but to train and develop local talent.
MOCCA is chaired by Petronel Baard.
