ELECTION NEWS - Special voting started today, Monday 6 May, and the Independent Electoral Commission has called on political parties to halt their political activities to allow space for voting to take place peacefully.
At 09:00, polling stations in Mossel Bay reported that many eligible voters had arrived to make their mark, yet the bulk of the special votes will be cast from homes and institutions where people unable to make it to a polling station will be helped to cast their vote.
The process inside the polling station is really swift, with voting taking less than two minutes on average.
Voters are reminded to check that the ballot papers are stamped before moving to the voting booths, and that their ballot papers are placed in the correct ballot box before exiting the voting station. Black pens are provided in the booths.
Special voting takes place from 09:00 until 17:00 at voting stations and via home visits on Monday and Tuesday, 6 and 7 May.
On Voting Day, Wednesday 8 May, polling stations will open at 07:00 and remain open until 21:00.
