MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - Deputy Finance Minister Mondli Gungubele told the youth their future in the country is in their hands. He is visiting Mossel Bay as part of the ANC Mayihlome programme.
He engaged with residents in a walkabout in Luthuli early morning before visiting the informal settlement New Rest as well as the communities Wards 1 and 2. He engaged with scores of young people as he walked the streets.
"The biggest challenge we face is to make the country relevant to the young people in terms of the opportunities we create for them," the minister told the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
He said a lot of government funding is focused on creating developmental opportunities for especially the youth. He added that a lot of work should go into improving the generation gap.

"As the elders, we are no longer necessarily in touch with the young people in the same manner as our elders were in touch with us when we were young. You do not only take an interest in your country when you can materially benefit from it. There are bigger things that define the country, how young people understand or view it. We are trying to protect their future, but their future is safer when they are actively participating," the minister added.
