ELECTION NEWS - The ANC, through it's regional chairman Jovan Bruinders, thanks all voters for their support in the national and provincial elections.
"In particular, we thank those voters who, despite the fact that during these elections voters were allowed to vote at any voting station, were shunted between voting districts, but remained disciplined and steadfast in their resolve to vote for the ANC," Bruinders said.
"The ANC thanks all the volunteers who served the party's elections effort in positions ranging from ensuring voters in their streets make it to the polling booths to our party agents, who served as our eyes and ears within polling stations.
"Lift up you chins comrades, because the ANC's self-correction which started in 2017, is already reflected in the small upswing in our election results, reversing the steady increase of the Democratic Alliance."
Bruinders continued: "We would like to congratulate the Independent Electoral Commission for conducting the elections in a manner that upheld the integrity of the elections. Barring a few minor hiccups, including the redirecting of voters, the elections were conducted in a fair and free manner.
"The ANC thanks all political opponents for their respectful election campaigns and elections. Congratulations to the DA for garnering the majority of votes in our municipality, but be warned, this is a situation the ANC is working very hard to overturn.
"Prepare yourselves for a renewed contest in 2021."
Bruinders said: "To voters who, by intent or omission, did not vote in the past elections, we can only say the Republic of South Africa is a participatory democracy, and one fails in one's civic duty if one does not make use of the statutory instruments which enable ordinary citizens to determine the future of our country constructively.
"Once again thank you to all members and supporters of the ANC and we look forward to working with you in the trenches to rejuvenate, unify and strengthen the African National Congress, in order for us to drive and implement the agenda and reconstruction programme of ensuring a better life for all of our municipality and country," Bruinders concluded.
