WC opens selected vaccine sites over the weekend

WESTERN CAPE NEWS - I am pleased to announce that selected vaccine sites in the Metro and Rural areas will be open for vaccinations on Saturday, 24 July.

These sites will accommodate walk-ins, in line with our priority system. From the following weekend, more sites will be added, in line with available vaccine supplies.

In the Cape Metro, the following sites will be operational on Saturday:

Goodwood Hall: open between 8 am – 12 noon;
False Bay Hospital: open between 8 am – 12 noon; and
Saxon Sea Hall, Atlantis: open between 8 am – 12 noon; and
Beaconvale Frail Care Centre, Mitchell’s Plain: open between 8 am – 12 noon; and
Gugulethu CHC: open between 8 am – 12 noon.

In the Rural areas, the following sites will be operational on Saturday:

Montagu Clinic, Langeberg: open between 9 am – 2 pm;
Van Der Stel Hall, Stellenbosch: open between 8:30 am – 1 pm;
Vredendal Sports Hall: open between 8:30 am and 2 pm;
Citrusdal Hospital: open between 9 am and 12 noon; and
TC Newman CDC, Drakenstein: open between 9 am – 3 pm.

Additional weekend sites are being considered on an ongoing basis. This is however dependent on vaccine supplies and storage capabilities.

Premier Winde calls on residents to stay safe over the weekend

This weekend, I call on residents to stay safe and continue practicing the lifesaving behaviours that we have learnt since the start of the pandemic to break the chain of transmission.

Please help us flatten the curve and save lives by:

Avoiding large crowds and gatherings;
Wearing your mask correctly;
Avoiding gatherings;
Keeping it short, small and outside, when you do leave your home – with good ventilation;
Staying home if you are sick but seeking medical help should you have difficulty breathing; and
Washing and sanitising your hands regularly.

By continuing to practice these important behaviours, we can reduce infections and save lives.

Update on the coronavirus and vaccines by Premier Alan Winde

As at 1pm on 23 July 2021, the Western Cape had 32 921 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number 381 230 COVID-19 cases to date and 333 894 recoveries.

By 17:00 on 21 July, the Western Cape Government had administered a cumulative total of 922 784 vaccines to healthcare workers, staff in the education sector and those within eligible age brackets.

Kindly note that we are reporting 6 703 more total cases today, compared to yesterday. This is due to approximately 2 000 additional historical cases having been updated along with reinfection data, reflecting today.

The latest trend as per yesterday’s briefing is that the rate of new infections is slowing, and the ‘R’ number is reaching ‘1’.
