SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - School leavers across the Eden District now have a second chance to get on the path to a brighter future as the RealStart Trust has re-opened applications for its youth development programme starting later this month.
The George-based organisation is inviting young people (between the ages of 17 and 22) to apply for a place on the year-long programme that launches with an orientation camp on Monday 25 January. Successful applicants will be taken through a detailed programme designed to help them move beyond their current circumstances, unleash their inner potential and become positive change-agents within the nation.
During the course of the year, students will develop holistically through daily lectures and one-on-one and group mentorship. They will also be empowered to give something back through volunteering projects and be exposed to new experiences such as art, adventure activities and cooking.
With personal development as a foundation, the students will then be streamed into one of three routes based on the results of professional assessments and career interviews: apprenticeship, further education or small business activation.
Each student will receive the necessary support and training to ensure they are successful in their chosen route. This training includes a number of tailored courses designed to equip them with workplace readiness skills, prepare them for further academic study and, for those interested in following an entrepreneurial route, guide them through the business planning process.
According to Hester Verschuur, ministry coordinator at RealStart, they are currently looking for high-quality young people who have a desire to make something of their lives and the determination to make it a reality, but don't have the support or resources to do that.
