BUSINESS NEWS - After the opening of the Panda Store in George a few months ago, the shop has attracted customers from far beyond George with its amazing variety of quality goods that fulfil just about any need.
Soon, however, Mossel Bay residents won't have to make a trip to George to find their favourite Panda Store articles.
Panda Store Bayside Centre will be opening in Mossel Bay on 25 November. And to celebrate its grand opening, it will be giving a whopping 30% discount on all products in the first six days, from 25 to 30 November.
It will stock almost everything except perishables. Customers can expect to be inspired by a magnitude of supplies for the office, kitchen, bathroom and general household. Aisles of merchandise await shoppers at this truly Chinese retail store. "We filled a shipping container with goodies," says Joy Liu, who owns the shop together with her husband GuoLiang Mao, better known as Mr Mao, and their business partner and friend Yu Hui Liu.
The supplies include toys, stationery, lamps and lanterns, cosmetics, handbags, suitcases, party supplies, tools, hardware, home appliances, curtains, carpets and rugs, cameras, speakers, phone accessories, fitness and sport equipment, ornaments, jewellery, belts, decorative paintings, picture frames, clocks and watches, batteries and artificial flowers.
Preparations for the grand opening are in full swing
Panda Store Bayside Centre will be comprised of two premises that are linked to each other to offer a combined 1 100m² of delightful shopping under one roof. The Mossel Bay Panda Store will be the fourth Chinese retail store that have opened in the country, with one in Pretoria (The General Store), another in Carletonville where they previously resided, and one in George.
Joy confirms that every last item in the store is proudly made in China. "Our stock is well priced and affordable. We have a seven-day refund policy for anyone unhappy with a purchase," she says.
"Our store is our pride. The Panda is China's natural treasure - it is lovely and rare. We use this name with respect and invite locals to visit us and treat themselves to treasures from Panda Store."
According to Joy, their customer profile covers the whole range – from children to elderly people – and they always come back.
She says they decided to open the store in Mossel Bay to fulfil the needs of residents and customers. But, after chatting with her a little, one can't help wondering if there is also something more personal behind the decision.
"Where he / we grew up in China, in Fuzhou, the city is very close to the ocean," she says. "Since we arrived in George in January, we've been to Victoria Bay and Herold's Bay so many times. We love the ocean. It reminds us of Fuzhou. And Mossel Bay is even closer to the ocean than George."
